Frequently Asked Questions
What is DontSendMeACard.com?
You can use this website to send e-cards for special occasions, and donate the cost equivalent of sending printed greeting cards to a cause that you care about.
How does it work?
Choose an occasion that you want to acknowledge and celebrate, such as a birthday of a friend, or Christmas with loved ones, then:
1. Select a charity
2. Compose your e-card and message
3. Donate how much you would have spent on greeting cards and stamps
4. Send your e-card and message by email on your dedicated send e-card page
Who can use it?
Everyone! No matter where you are in the world, you can send our e-cards to loved ones and send donations to charity.
How do I give?
Donations are made by credit card or with your PayPal account. All payments are processed through PayPal, but you have the option to pay by credit card if you do not have a PayPal account.
What charities can I give to?
We have over 40 incredible charities listed at the time of writing. These range from children's charities, to environmental causes, to visual impairment and animal protection.
Note that although anyone in the world can use our e-card service, as an organisation based in England, you can currently only donate to our registered UK charity partners.
If you are outside of the UK, many of our charity partners undergo international efforts, if you specifically wanted to support a cause that assists another country.

Do I need to sign up for an account?
No. We've streamlined this as much as possible so you can quickly choose an e-card and make a donation, rather than have to create an account first.
How much can I give?
There is a minimum donation of £1 and a maximum of £300.
For a single occasion, such as a birthday, you can send just one e-card and pay the equivalent of what you would have spent on a card and postage, e.g., £3.
For common occasions where you would send multiple cards, such as Christmas, you can send an e-card to everyone and donate the total cost of all of those cards and stamps, e.g., £50 or £100, or, for many people, more. You can also add an additional cash gift.
Can I include a personal message?
Yes. When you compose your e-card you can include a typed personal message that the recipient will get with the e-card detailing that you have donated.
Is it easy to do?
Yes. It is a simple one-page form, which links to the option to pay by credit card or by PayPal, after which you can send your e-card/s via email.
What do fees work?
You are only ever charged what you select to donate e.g. if you select to donate £10 you pay £10 via PayPal. That's it.
We apply a 5% fee which is deducted from each transaction. For the charity to receive your donations securely by PayPal a fee of 3.4% + £0.20 to transfer the funds applies.
Charities can then claim 25p Gift Aid on every £1 donated, meaning they can receive over 100% of your original amount given.
How fees and payments work is clearly explained here
How many e-cards can I send?
For a single occasion – where you send a card to one person e.g. a birthday – you send just one e-card.
For a common occasion (where you send multiple cards for one occasion e.g. Christmas, Easter), you can send up to 100 e-cards.
Please note for our e-card release mid-Nov 2015 we are currently only offering the occasion Christmas. We’ll be adding other occasions shortly such as birthdays.
Why do people do this?
It’s simple: Because they would have spent the same amount on a greeting card – and possibly postage – anyway. Plus it’s much easier to quickly process a payment through the site than going out and choosing a card and posting it on time.
Can I invite people to do the same?
Yes. When you send your e-card the recipient will see the option to follow your example with a button inviting them to 'Do the Same'. In fact, as a user and advocate of this, it is you that has the ability to encourage loved ones to give to a cause that you care about, which in turn may attract their network and so on.
Also, as a visitor to the site you can simply click the Facebook 'Like' button and you can post to Facebook that you would prefer to no longer receive cards yourself and would love it if everyone joined you in sending e-cards and making donations!
Who are DontSendMeACard?
Based in Devon, we’re a collaboration of graphic designers and web developers that believe a real alternative to greeting cards should exist. So we built it! Enjoy.
When will my chosen charity get the funds?
Each time that you send an e-card and complete the donation payment process, your designated charity receives the funds immediately.
How do I send the money?
In order to send funds through DontSendMeACard.com, you will need a valid credit card or PayPal account.
How do I know that the donation was processed?
We automatically email you and the charity upon successful payment.
Is this safe?
Yes. All payments are processed through PayPal, a trusted and known payment processing service. Learn more about PayPal.
Does not sending cards save the environment?
Little by little it does. Individually the effect is not huge, but collectively for example we are using hundreds of thousands of trees every year in the UK to support the greeting card industry.
So by using the DontSendMeACard service and being an active advocate of it, you are helping to reduce the waste caused by sending cards. This is especially effective if the money you raise is given to an environmental charity as not only are you donating to something that helps the earth, you are electing to not receive cards and reducing your own carbon footprint, so it can have a double effect.
Am I in control of what I do on the website?
Absolutely. We built the site keeping in mind how frustrating some websites can be. Nothing happens unless you make it happen.
Will you keep my credit card details on file?
No. As payments are processed through PayPal, no record of your credit card is kept by our company.
Can I get a refund?
No. There are no refunds available through the website. Once you have made the payment, you would have to contact the charity to whom you made a donation if you were to decide that you wanted your money back (the same way as if you gave them cash in a greeting card, and decided you wanted it back.)
Will you sell my email address to third parties?
Why should I do this?
2 billion cards are sent each year in the UK. That's a lot of cards! We believe that a proportion of this should go to amazing causes that really need it.
Will I get a receipt for my donation?
Yes you will receive a receipt automatically by email after the payment has been processed.
